Frequently asked questions

Do we need PulsePoint to use Vanguard?
No. Vanguard works whether or not you have PulsePoint — you can draft and publish incident updates manually from Mission Control. PulsePoint and NWS auto-ingest are optional enhancements. If your agency uses a different CAD system, drop us a line — we're actively expanding CAD integrations.
Does my team need to be Facebook page admins?
No, and that's the whole point. You connect Vanguard to your Facebook page once as a page admin, and from there your team posts through Vanguard with role-based permissions. No one else needs the page-admin password, and every post is logged with the user who sent it.
What happens when someone leaves the team?
Revoke their Vanguard access from your settings and they're done. No password rotation, no scrambling to pull them off the page-admin list, no risk of an ex-staffer posting after they're gone. The audit trail of what they posted while they were on the team stays intact.
What if I'm the only one posting — do I need a "team"?
No. Vanguard works fine for solo PIOs and volunteer FD comms officers. The scoped-access and audit features are there when (or if) you add people later — they don't get in the way when you don't need them. Mission Control's draft-and-publish workflow is just as useful for one person managing multiple incidents as it is for a full team.
Why is this only $29.99/mo?
It's deliberate. Vanguard is built for the people actually doing community safety posting — volunteer FDs, small PD PIOs, volunteer comms officers — not for budget lines built around enterprise contracts. $29.99/mo fits under most agencies' P-card / micro-purchase threshold, which means no RFP, no procurement waiting period, no contract negotiations. A Coordinator tier with multi-page support, SSO, and SLA is in development — email us to be first to know.
Is my data — and my community's data — safe?
Vanguard doesn't store resident PII, doesn't sell data, and pulls from PulsePoint and NWS read-only. Every Facebook post is audit-logged with timestamps and the user who sent it. For full details on data handling, encryption, scopes, and incident response, see our Security page.
